While the end of the boating season is always hard on those of us in the northeast, PowerTime Boston softens the blow for its’ members by keeping the boats in the water till the very end and then hosting a fabulous end-of-season party. The annual End-of-Season Dinner is part mourning and part celebration for the season past. In the end, everyone enjoys a fantastic meal, pleasurable company, and shared memories of time on the water.
This year’s celebration was especially gratifying as the base concluded its’ 10th season in Boston Harbor. About 40 members joined in the fun at Strega Waterfront, which is located near our Boston base at Fan Pier Marina. Strega is known for their unforgettable Italian cuisine. So, everyone, of course, enjoyed their meals.
During the party, members shared their best boating memory from the past season. Hearing how our members are using their time on the water is incredibly rewarding to us. One of the younger members spoke about the joy of skipping out of work to catch the excellent fall winds with his father. Another group of members that often sail together talked about their satisfaction with a four-day cruise around Massachusetts Bay in the middle of the summer. And a couple new to PowerTime, spoke about taking some extended family out for their first-ever boating experience. This is what boating is all about – enjoying nature with family and friends, escaping life’s burdens even for a short while, and creating new memories that will never wear out.
After everyone was stuffed from dinner and drinks, a few awards were handed out. At PowerTime Boston, they like to recognize those members that have been on the roster for a while. They grant the title of “Commodore” to members that have been a part of the program for five years. This year, the base recognized two new Commodores, bringing the total to nine members who have been so for five years! In addition, the base recognized their Member of the Year. Paul Baudisch excelled in the criteria of making the most of his PowerTime Boston membership and taking great care of his boat, and he was also very willing to lend a hand around the docks when needed.
While it was always sad to close out the boating season, it was great to connect with members and also give them a chance to connect with each other one more time. Hearing the great variety of stories and experiences is always a wonderful end to another boating season. While everyone hopes for winter to pass quickly, the base is already working on a number of new initiatives to make the 11th season in Boston Harbor the best yet.
