Sailing in Philadelphia has never been this easy! Our Philadelphia boating base offers memberships conveniently located at a dock in the center of the city. Not only can you enjoy boating on the river you will also be able to enjoy all the great options this iconic urban center provides.
To begin your adventure, step onboard at the Philadelphia Marine Center. From here you’re in the heart of the things this big, historic, progressive city has to offer. Philadelphia was recently named as “the next Great American City” by National Geographic Traveler magazine. Our dock location includes a large, private patio compete with outdoor furniture, positioned with a riverside view. Since the marina sits underneath the landmark Ben Franklin Bridge, we couldn’t ask for a better viewing spot for its nightly light show or for the beautiful fireworks displays frequently blasting off over the river.
A sail along the Delaware River not only serves up beautiful skyline views. Moored in the port are historic vessels like the battleship New Jersey, and the Olympia, the only Spanish American era American naval vessel still in existence. You’ll have a ringside seat for the season’s long list of exciting concerts, festivals and celebrations offered along the combined waterfronts of Philadelphia and Camden.
Without leaving the marina you can enjoy a great meal at the new Tiki bar, enjoy the fun table side cooking experience at the Hibachi Grill or try out the games at Dave & Buster’s. If you wander a few blocks away you can visit five star restaurants, museums, theaters or even national historic treasures – before or after you enjoy yourself on the boat! Or pick up some offerings at the Reading Terminal Market to stock up on your provisions to prepare a meal in the boat’s galley.
Take a cruise north on the Delaware River to find marinas in Riverside, New Jersey or on the Neshaminy Creek. There are several that offer transient slips, supplies and good restaurants.
Heading south, grab some crabs at Crabby Dick’s in Delaware City, which is positioned just above the entrance to the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal. While there you can catch the ferry over to Pea Patch Island to tour the Civil War era penitentiary which housed Confederate soldiers.
Continue into the canal to tie up at a slip in Summit North Marina. From there you can hike over to Lum’s Pond State Park. Keep heading through the canal to anchor in the cove at Chesapeake City. A water taxi will take you ashore to explore the quaint boutiques or restaurants in this little historic village. Cruising on delivers you to the Elk River where the rest of the Upper Chesapeake region awaits.
